Ottawa has such a wonderful history, please don't take from that. Wellington Street was one of the first two streets laid out in Bytown in 1826. The street was named after the Duke of Wellington, who ordered the construction of the Rideau Canal in 1825 and is one of the founders of the city. We have the bridge honoring the memory of Sir John A. MacDonald. This is not to suggest commemmorating Sir John A MacDonald is innappropriate in Ottawa, and as noted by others there is a bridge and Ottawa's main airport already named for him. If there is such a strong desire to name a street or place for Sir John A, then name something new, such as a new public space in the downtown area, but please leave the names of the city's most historic streets alone.
